Writer's Block: Home is...

My home's not a palace,
It's tiny, I fear.
But I've somehow survived it
for many a year.
It's not the best place
in this great crowded town,
but I know every brick
(and they're pulling down.)
We've lasted through carnivals,
lasted through quiet
We've been here through peace,
But we've been here through riot.
We once would have cheered
when the bulldozers came,
But we live here in peace now,
and that's not the same.
We organised things
and somehow dried our tears,
and we built up a neighbourhood,
Over the years.
It's a world that we know
just like any small town.
And it's now they've decided
they're pulling it down.
So we'll pack up our things
and we'll be on our way,
and there's some may go singing
while some weep to stay.
There's much that I love here
and that gives me grief,
(Farewell to my garden,
I love every leaf.)
So we're leaving our homes,
Both the laughter and pain.
So there's nothing to do
but to build them again.
